Cuttle fish bones by emmil Cuttle fish bones by emmil
Cuttle fish bones are good for mineral supply for your birds. It could also be used for beak exercise (chew toy). :)

They are recommended for all parrots. Tiels and budgies are small parrots, so yeah the bones are good for them.

Crushed egg shells are also good! Kali has to have them instead. She doesn't use her cuttlebone appropriately. D:

I'll try to get one, but he stops chewing it when I come close to his cage. He even doesn't like anyone near him when he drinks XD
(We think he might have been treated a bit badly at the pet store, which might explain why he doesn't trust people much :( )

So, if he's not eating/drinking, is he ok if you get hear him? Will he take food from your fingers?

Oh he only wasn't drinking/eating when we first got him..now we've had him for 2 years. He trusts me pretty well. Ever since we got him I've tried to stay near him so he'll get used to me, but not too much since it makes him a little nervous sometimes. Eventually he started taking food from us ex. if I hold a piece of lettuce in his cage he's fine with it now....he comes along and nibbles at it.

I just meant that he likes a lot of personal space XD

Well, one step at a time. Even a small progress is really a rewarding experience for all the hard work and attempt we make to tame a bird :)

My bird Pipo likes to use it for bombing games. He'll break it to smaller pieces and drop them down to the floor below. Well, he really like throwing everything which I put on the board anyway.

I have gotten them fresh off the beach here, rinsed them out and given him those. Tried him on ones from the shop .. he just doesn't want them.

I see, maybe some birds just don't like it. :)
Btw, you have them for free? Wow, I don't live near beaches I think XD

Well, as you can see mine also broken on the pic. Playing is part of eating. I hang like a dozen of these bones around the colony cage, :3

I've took out mine since they were barely used, and put some vitamin drops in the water.

They can also use the bones for chewing toys, break them to pieces, so that their beaks won't be overgrown :)
