Wow,I raise chickens and these babies look even more helpless. They must have good mother's to survive. No wonder they like hot jungles. The mother would not be able to leave them to feed herself.

My opinion of this species just went up about 10 points. My baby chicks are a joy to take care of, but you have something really special there. Thank you for sharing… They are beautiful and a wonder.

Hi emmil.I am just wondering how could you distinguish their gender?

:iconjrigh:
JRigh Featured By Owner Sep 5, 2012
Unfortunately, lovebirds are diamorphic which means that just by looking at them you will not be able to tell their gender. So you have to DNA test them ... I sent in one of my birdie's feathers to an avian lab that tests. I think it cost me around $35.00. Here's the link, in case you or anyone else is interested: [link]

Thanks for the answering.I never hear of that.It looks fun to test their gender!Unfortunately,we don't have avian lab near my home.LOL

You can go to that website and they will let you mail them your sample! The actual lab is about 2,000 miles from where I live. :-) But I have some friends who have lovebirds who do not care to know the actual sex of their birds. They aren't breeding them, so they don't really care to know. I wanted to know simply because I felt weird NOT knowing! lol

I am not breeding them, too. But I also want to know their gender!Maybe I can ask my mom for one testing later.
:squee: Thanks for your sharing again!

Is it hard to bread lovebirds? I have bread rats before, and I know all the risks with them.... But how diffrent is it with lovebirds?

:iconemmil:
emmil Featured By Owner Sep 4, 2012  Professional Digital Artist
Yes & no. I can't answer for sure that coz I've never breed rodents before. But from what I've heard both species have good moms and bad moms.
